Your Chamber is Here to Help in 2015

Most of us begin each year thinking of the potential that it holds. We take a moment to reflect back on the previous year’s hits and misses. Once the review is complete we begin to look forward into the new year. The word potential is very powerful. If you look up the word potential you’ll generally find one of these definitions; possible as opposed to actual, capable of being or becoming, or expressing possibility.

It is too easy in business to forget the word potential is not actual. Potential by itself will not produce the outcomes; it requires action on our parts. As you begin the process of discovering the potential 2015 holds for your business or organization keep in mind that you need to focus on the action items it takes to get there. You can do this in a number of ways. A common technique used for planning is to do a SWOT Analysis. SWOT stands for; Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Your strengths and weakness are your internal factors. List them out with the frame of reference of what you are doing internally to be successful or what isn’t working. Opportunities and threats are the outside factors that affect your business. List what opportunities are out there to help you achieve more business, greater income, or an impact on the community. Your threats are those external factors that can cause you to miss your goals. Threats can be anything from competition in your area of business, the local business climate, or even legislative matters that negatively impact what you do.
