GCSC VPA Presents “Second Nature” Exhibit

The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College presents “Second Nature” by Donald Martin. The works in this exhibit share a common theme and use predominately black-and-white imagery, with most of the images including linoleum block prints.

Through deft use of line and value, Mr. Martin creates intricate compositions that are dense yet dynamic. The theme is nature, particularly close-up views of plant forms that are recognizable and abstract. These images represent a complex and tangled world where plant forms are often engaged in a collective struggle for space and light – a metaphor for the present state of the natural world.

Donald Martin is a Professor Emeritus at Flagler College. Over his forty-plus-year career, he has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions. His illustrations have appeared in over twenty national and international publications, and his work is part of many public and corporate collections.
