Every September, Schooners, The Last Local Beach Club, hosts the largest Lobster Festival and Tournament in Florida. Divers from all over the country travel to Panama City Beach to compete in the Tournament. The event draws thousands of lobster-loving spectators who take advantage of a delicious excuse to visit the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches.
Lobster Tournament categories include Spiny Lobster, Big 6 and Shovelnose Lobster. Cash prizes total over $10,000. Weigh-ins offer tremendous photo ops as divers pose with their catch; the weigh-ins take place Saturday, 3pm-5pm and Sunday, 12pm-5pm.
The 2018 Lobster Festival Schedule of Events includes a weeklong celebration of Florida Lobster, beginning Monday, September 17, with original and classic Lobster specials on the Schooners menu, as well as a 3 day undertaking by professional sand sculptors, “Sand Odyssey,” to erect a giant lobster themed Sand Sculpture on the beach behind Schooners. The Sculpture begins Wednesday, September 19 and is scheduled for completion Friday, September 21.
Saturday, September 22, the Festival kicks off with Sandcastle and Sand Sculpting Contests for Advanced as well as Adult/Family categories. At 10am, the beach stage goes live with Music & contests, and the Lobster Feast begins at 11am. Live entertainment rocks all weekend long.
Sunday, the restaurant opens at 10am and the Lobster Feast & Beach Party kicks off at 11am. At 4pm, the Lobster Auction and Diver Awards takes place on the Main stage while Chris LeBlanc band rocks the Beach Stage. The Grand Prize Drawing is at 7pm.
