Florida Cancer Affiliates, a premier provider of cancer care and a practice in The US Oncology Network, is proud to welcome Bruce W. Porterfield, M.D., Ph.D. to our medical oncology team. He joins a compassionate, multidisciplinary team of experts providing exceptional and personalized care to patients in Panama City. Dr. Porterfield’s addition marks a new step in the practice’s commitment to providing patients with the specialized care they need, alongside the latest technologies and therapies.
Dr. Porterfield is a board-certified physician with over 20 years of experience in medicine. He holds a medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Chicago Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology. Dr. Porterfield completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, where he also served as chief resident in his final year of residency. He then went on to complete a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, where he was named chief fellow. He then served the community in Arizona for 15 years while practicing at Arizona Oncology.
A highly skilled physician with a strong background in genetics, Dr. Porterfield’s expertise strongly aligns with the practice’s mission of providing leading-edge care in a convenient community setting. By adding another exceptional physician to the practice, Florida Cancer Affiliates will be able to provide patients in the community with quicker access to high-quality and personalized care throughout their cancer journey.
In addition to two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Porterfield has published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations, Somatic Cell and Molecular Genetics, and the Journal of Biological Chemistry. He has also served as an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Southern Arizona VA Health Care System and University Medical Center.
Dr. Porterfield is deeply passionate about delivering outstanding care in addition to developing clinical research trials that highlight reputable alternative solutions to cancer treatment.
