Pier Park and SkyWheel Panama City Beach Partner on a History-Making Public Art Project

Pier Park is excited to announce that the mall will make local history this month by becoming the first area business to execute a privately-funded public art project in the City of Panama City Beach. The shopping, dining and entertainment complex secured city approval for its breezeway mural plans following a May 24th Public Art Committee meeting. The complex selected an artist with local ties, Kollet Hardeman, to transform the mall breezeway into an “underwater tunnel” featuring native fish and marine life. The $25,000 project, funded by Pier Park and SkyWheel Panama City Beach, will kick off on November 27.

WHAT: Pier Park and one of the mall’s most popular attractions, SkyWheel Panama City Beach, have teamed up to bring educational art to locals and tourists. A colorful mural will cover the walls and ceiling of the complex’s 53-foot-long breezeway, inviting sharable social media moments. As part of the installation, Pier Park and SkyWheel Panama City Beach will provide a plaque challenging visitors to identify the native Florida fish included in their index. The partners will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the site on Thursday, December 7 at 11 a.m.

WHEN: Painting will start on Monday, November 27, 2023 and will conclude on Thursday, December 7, 2023
